500,000 meals to fight hunger!
one meal program
The OneMeal mission is to meet the needs of starving families by empowering people here at home to serve. Over 30% of the Honduran population is battling chronic malnutrition! Together, we can make a difference. This mobile food-packing program engages groups to work together in a meaningful hands-on, team-building experience.
The nutrient rich OneMeal recipe is designed to reverse the starvation process and its effects. Each package contains 6 complete meals, and the cost is only 25 cents per meal!
Our goal is to provide 500,000 meals to malnourished farming families in Honduras in 2019, and we invite you to partner with us to fight hunger and poverty! Partner with TerraMica in the OneMeal program to raise funds, to gather volunteers to pack meals, and to provide a place for the packing event. The packaged meals are then shipped by container to Honduras, and distribution to needy families is managed by TerraMica.
the EVENT process
Organizations such as businesses, churches, schools, and civic groups raise funds, gather volunteers, and host food packing events at their location or warehouse. Your group or organization raises funds for the meals and arranges for volunteers to come together and pack meals assembly line style in a unifying and fun high-energy event.
How a packing event works: Your event can last 2 hours or two days. We administrate the day of the event for you! Volunteers can pack in shifts or all at once, depending on number of volunteers and number of meals your group wants to pack.
You can use this info to estimate the length of your event based on number of volunteers or meals:
10-12 Volunteers = 1 Packing line
1 Packing line = 2,000 meals per hour
average of 200 meals per volunteer per hour
FRESH WATER FOR FAMILIES
the need for water
In Central America, approximately 420,000 small plot coffee farming families do not have access to clean water. Many walk to polluted water sources and store the family water supply in metal barrels or plastic buckets. Enteric disease from contaminated food and water is the number one cause of death for children under the age of five. Poor health resulting from lack of water intake and/or consumption of contaminated water leads to lack of productivity on family farms and therefore, less economic stability. We believe that every child, every family member, should have access to clean water, and we are looking for partners to help us bring water to remote communities in need.
TerraMica is dedicated to providing impoverished farming families with access to clean water storage, and is expanding this program beyond Honduras to include the neighboring countries of Guatemala and Nicaragua. In addition to building pila water reservoirs, we will provide families with Sawyer water filters, and our technicians will train families in the importance of clean water and sanitation.
The cost to develop, implement, and expand the water project throughout Honduras, Guatemala, and Nicaragua is $160,000. Partner with us (corporations, foundations, and private donors) to fund the further development and implementation of this project.
PLAYGROUNDS FOR IMPOVERISHED COMMUNITIES
In conjunction with our water program aimed at stabilizing small plot coffee farming families, we will be installing playgrounds in these farming communities. Just as access to fresh water stabilizes a family, a playground stabilizes the community. A playground creates an atmosphere of fun, and an opportunity for healthy physical activity, of course ... but it also becomes a community gathering center, a place where families connect, and build relationships. In order to achieve a healthy, thriving community, we focus intentionally on its people.
Play is crucial to a child’s emotional, physical, social, and creative growth. Playgrounds bring families together, which strengthens community ties and cultivates hope. TerraMica is passionate about supporting families and communities in the regions we serve. In addition, playgrounds create the opportunity to engage children into the KIDStory youth mentoring program, administrated by local churches.
Altogether, this is a holistic approach to physical health, social health, and spiritual health … with the face of a playground!
In 2019, TerraMica will build 10 playgrounds in coffee farming communities. The funds required for this project is $100,000. We welcome corporate sponsorships, foundations, and private donors. Partner with us through your financial gifts and/or through volunteering your time to join us in building playgrounds! For details, EMAIL US.
Dental health for school children
Help us gather 16,000 toothbrushes for school children in Honduras! Once a quarter, TerraMica and dental health volunteers visit schools to teach kids about the importance of dental hygiene and to train them how to brush and maintain their teeth. TerraMica provides toothbrushes for the children, and your donation of toothbrushes will help us reach our goal of 16,000!
For example, it’s under $20 to purchase 100 toothbrushes on Amazon. We encourage you to utilize smile.amazon and select TerraMica as your charity of choice! That’s just one more way you can support us, as a percentage of directed smile.Amazon sales will be donated to us! And, you can make all of your Amazon purchases this way to support TerraMica! Use the link below (and select TerraMica as your charity!) or find your own great deal to donate toothbrushes for children to TerraMica. We’ll transport them to Honduras and ensure that they are distributed in connection with the dental health program!
